Sydney advises corporate and individual clients on medical staff privileges
and governance issues; compliance with federal and state laws and
regulations (including HIPAA, HITECH Act, CMIA, HCQIA, the Stark Law, and
federal and state anti-kickback statutes); commercial disputes; and
employment matters.
She represents clients in litigation in state and federal courts throughout
California. Her representative experience includes:
- Representing medical practice and other healthcare clients in FCA
matters, including qui tam lawsuit alleging violations of the Stark law
and federal and state Anti-Kickback Statute - Representing medical groups and other healthcare employers in
defense against employee discrimination and retaliation lawsuits - Defending medical practice in dispute over allegedly unenforceable
non-compete following physician buy-out - Representing whistleblower physician employee in litigation against
skilled nursing facility alleging retaliatory termination - Representing physicians, medical practices, and professional societies
in responding to civil subpoenas and investigative demands - Representing physician in peer review action related to summary
suspension of privileges - Counseling clients on problems that arise in the course of day-to-day
operations, including reporting and accreditation obligations,
compliance with employment laws, contractual obligations and disputes,
and landlord-tenant problems
Sydney is a member of the California Society for Healthcare Attorneys. She
is admitted to practice in the U.S. Districts Courts for the Northern District
of California, Eastern District of California, and Central District of
California. Before joining KG, Sydney practiced law at Pillsbury LLP in its
Sacramento office.
Sydney received her J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law and her B.A.
from Middlebury College in Vermont.
